About the Sequoia Energy Center

Clearway Energy Group is in the process of developing the Sequoia Energy Center on private land in Fresno County, California. The energy storage and solar facility will help meet the growing demand for energy in California’s Central Valley by generating 200 megawatts of new electricity—enough to power 112,000 homes.

During the project's operating life, the Sequoia Energy Center will pay approximately $53 million in local property taxes.

The solar portion of the project could come online as early as 2029 and will generate power for approximately 30 years. The storage facility could go online as early as 2031.

The Sequoia Energy Center represents a $735 investment in Fresno County—funded entirely by private capital. In addition to generating California-grown power, the project will bring revenue and jobs into the wider Fresno County economy.

More electricity: 200 megawatts of solar is enough to power 112,000 homes annually.

Property tax revenue: The project will contribute an estimated $53.2 million in local property taxes over its lifetime.  This creates new support for the schools, first responders and other public services.

Job opportunities: The solar farm will create 500 jobs at peak construction. Several on-site positions will be available once the project comes online. Clearway asks our partners to prioritize locals when hiring.

The Sequoia project is situated on private land with soil heavily degraded by salt and selenium. The owner has deemed that the plot is no longer suitable for agriculture, and has chosen solar leasing as a way to continue earning revenue from that parcel while letting the soil rest.
